Virtual Globes - RS-2008 Update

Virtual Globe client applications, such as Google Earth, have brought 3D geospatial data visualization to the masses. These applications have enabled millions of users to view geospatial data in 3D; many of these users have little or no experience with GIS data or software. Natural resource managers can use these powerful communication tools to display geospatial data effectively to peers and the general public.

This presentation will briefly review some of the client applications available, discuss methods of deploying geospatial data, and showcase some of the ways that Virtual Globes are currently being used in the Forest Service. Additionally, new features and recent advances in Virtual Globe technology will be presented.
