Abstract
The AmericaView (AV) Program, a partnership between the U.S. Geological Survey and the AmericaViewSM Consortium, is a national program currently active in 31 states that was created to advance the availability, timely distribution, and widespread use of land remote sensing data. The Consortium is the federal government’s primary partner in achieving the AV Program vision and goals, which focus on helping the academic, government and industry sectors in each state identify, develop, and distribute the kinds of remote sensing applications each state needs most. The AmericaViewSM Consortium is comprised of university-led, state-based consortia working together to build a nationwide network of state and local users; members include users in academia, industry, and all levels of government. This presentation will emphasize ongoing and recent applications projects carried out by faculty and students in partnership with government agencies. The projects range from invasive species mapping in forests and rangelands to wildlife habitat mapping, monitoring of illegal logging, park and forest boundary violations, mapping of active fires, monitoring outcomes of prescribed burning, and studying the impact of landcover change on watersheds and water resources. Developing partnership opportunities including data sharing and access, pilot projects, student and faculty internships, and professional development will also be discussed.
