Abstract
NASA and the USDA-Forest Service have teamed to explore innovative capabilities for observations of fire events, to improve the temporal resolution and information content of remotely sensed information to effect a more rapid disaster decision process. In 2007, the partnership demonstrated capabilities of a new VIS-IR-TIR sensor system, Unmanned Airborne Vehicle (UAV) platform operations, and a real-time decision support system / collaborative decision environment to be used by fire management personnel. These capabilities were demonstrated during fire season - 2007, in the western US and during the devastating southern California firestorms of late October. This presentation will highlight the wildfire multi-agency applications partnership (WRAP) and showcase the technology development, demonstration, and real-life applications that occurred these past few years.
